ALLEN COMETTANT
Allen Comettant was born in1973 in Seychelles. He studied art at the polytechnic school of art and design from 1990 to 1993, during which time all art forms were ‘wow’ to him. He then studied in China, where he was exposed to a wider range of techniques and styles. Comettant started working with the Ministry of Culture and Youth in 1998 as a graphic artist, and in 2000 he became the Manager of the Production unit, responsible for the production of all cultural events communication materials.
He had his first solo exhibition in 2003 – ‘My Scribble 03’. His second solo saw a piece selected for the Francophone Games in Niger in 2005. The exhibition ‘Na Swazir’ sought audience opinions on which piece he should select for the competition. Whilst in Niger he was in a painting atelier with other artists competing for the prestigious gold medal of the game. His third solo show was in 2009 at the Alliance Française and called ‘Lar Revolisyon’. This show represented an artistic revolution. Comettant has also taken part in several group exhibitions over the years. He loves creating abstract artworks, producing works mainly with acrylic paint, as well as at times mixed media or digital applications.
After working as a graphic artist for 22 years in government departments he is now exploring digital expressions as a way to convey his messages. He has also created three dimensional works out of wood, coconut husks and chalk-like material.
